Originally from the South, I am now an honorary Northerner having lived in Yorkshire for the last 25 years. During my childhood I would spend a lot of my spare time drawing, everything from cars and planes to animals and people. I was always fascinated with attempting to make a drawing look just like the real item and would spend hours trying to perfect the shapes and perspective in an attempt to get it right. It was because of this fascination that I was advised to study Design and subsequently graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a BA (Hons) in Industrial Design.
Following University I spent a number of years working in a design consultancy role developing products in the consumer and commercial sectors for brands such as Unilever. I also undertook and successfully completed a Master’s Degree in Design Practice at Northumbria University whilst continuing to work in industry. Soon after this I joined TRIG as a Director to help develop and grow the business.
In addition to my management and design responsibilities at TRIG, I am the company Quality Manager ensuring the business remains ISO 9001 compliant. I am also the company expert on intellectual property rights for design works and the Patent Box initiative. Over the years I have gained extensive experience in designing products in the power tools, children’s and baby products and lighting sectors for brands such as Lindam and Britax. My professional interests include sustainable design, 3D printing and prototyping techniques and 3D computer generated visualisation.
As well as practicing as a design consultant, I have also spent some time working in academia and am a qualified university lecturer having held posts at local universities, most notably at the University of Huddersfield teaching on the highly regarded BA / BSc Product Design courses.
